Congratulations Karen & Gary

It was a beautiful wedding, the vows written by the groom and bride showed wisdom far beyond their years. Best wishes for a bright future together.

This could change my life forever!

Starting July 1, the province of Alberta will be hosting a website with the restaurant inspection reviews! How scary is that? What would/will I do if our favorite place to dine...has a bad health inspection review? Stay tuned...and watch for your favorite place to dine out HERE

Something different

Last night I watched him sleep! You've probably all done it...new relationship, you can to see and know everything about Mr. Right.

Well last night Joe hooked up to the sleep monitor and tried to sleep while I watched him and the numbers fluctuate!!!! Poor guy, as if the taped finger, neck monitor and nostril hose wasn't enough!I watched it change as he snored, didn't snore, stopped breathing and started again with a sputter. Can you tell there was nothing exciting to watch on the b**b tube?

Well he turned in the monitor for analysis...not sure how long that will take. I don't think I will be surprised with the results. I'm predicting sleep apnea will officially be diagnosed...it was unofficially in the past, but someone didn't want to have a big clunky machine AKA CPAP as his bed buddy! We will wait and see what happens next.

In the mean time, we are getting ready for a family wedding, my nephew Gary is tying the knot with Karen. I have yet to meet his special lady, but I think I already like her. She wrote me the sweetest Thank You note for the shower gift I sent! Ahhhh!

Then we are in the home stretch for Heather & Jeff's wedding. The guest list got a bit longer when Heather finally caught up with her best friend Heather from Ralston days. Oh the catching up we all have to do!

Have a great long weekend. Celebrate Canada Day with pride and please, don't drink & drive!
We had a bad car accident many years ago with a drunk driver leading up to the long weekend...thankfully it turned out OK, but...you can only imagine how it could have turned out. Be safe!

Garden June 2008

The month is almost finished but I'm not...so much more to do but here's a peak until my back yard as it was yesterday.
This is the new bed we made late last fall. It has a lot of perennials and some annuals to fill in. It looks a bit sparse but once it starts to take off, I'll probably have to thin plants out to another area or share with friends. The bright blue of my gazing ball is a nice contrast to the lawn.
The is a shot from the deck, looking towards the back gate. The iris and bleeding heart are in full bloom and very showy. Once they are done, their green foliage will be a nice contrast to the hostas and pansies that are closer to the ground.
This is my first perennial bed I made...the cornflower has gone crazy despite my dividing it last fall. The iris are peaking out form the corner as the peony is coming to an end. The delphinium spikes are just coming into form...they should be ~ 6ft or more in their glory. Again...more thinning needed this fall.
This is the new bed once again. I loved the tulip shadow on the grey background - very striking!
More of my fancy white tulips. I'll have to look up the variety because these are the longest lasting tulips I've ever seen...we are going into our 4th week and beside their height, the weather has not affected them! Some of my friends have commented that they look artificial - they are that gorgeous.I need lots more for next year! Love the deep forest green of the fiddleheads in the background! What a show I would have missed had Joe gone out with a pan and a knife!

I can't believe we all start out the same!

The performers of Cirque du Soleil must come with extra body parts! They bent and twisted and contorted into all different shapes and when you think you've seen it all, they open up a new bag of tricks!

They use all the colours in the crayon box and if they clash, so much the better. With minimum props...juggling balls, poles, ladders, trapeze, bicycle, chair and a giant swing, they used no artificial energy...just their own bodies and skills!

One of the highlights for me was the pantimime act where the actor pulled a 'well rounded' audience member up to particiate, all without a word being spoken. It was a case where follow the leader prevailed...even to the point when there was a gun shoot out ala old western movies...and the volunteer got the first shot off! It was hilarious.

I have no photos to post because of the camera ban...strictly enforced to keep all the players safe and sound. Imagine, you are 20 feet up a pole and about to jump to another...sans safety harness...and a flash goes off! That wouldn't be a pretty sight so...no pictures.

This was well worth the price of admission that Joe's friends paid for us to go...but in the end, I went with a dear friend as Joe was on the road again! Sorry dear, your loss and Jo's gain!

Hope everyone has a brilliant weekend! We are home for a change and entertaining company...should be fun!

Did ya know this? I didn't!

School zones bug the heck out of me...all those cars zipping past without any regard for the safety of those children. Now that Thing 1 is going to be walking to his new school this fall, Lesley has been trying to at least get a crosswalk marked on a somewhat busy street.

Our local newspaper came out today and there was a very illuminating article about school speed zones. Look at these 2 situations...are they the same?

Not by a long shot! Seems the sign of the left with the speed zone in yellow is merely a SUGGESTION folks! That's right, non enforceable!!!!! To be enforceable the speed must be displayed with black lettering on a white background! Who knew about that slight difference? The reporter talked to some of the local RCMP's where the signs are not white and they replied "No Comment". The town council(s) just had a very public and rude awakening!

Slow down...in the end, the pedestrian/cyclist always loses in a collision with a motorized vehicle.

Back to better eating

I'm not sure if it's been our crazy schedule or just the aging process or what, but I've been lagging in energy lately. So after much thought and a happy surprise...I found Lesley's juicer I'd borrowed a year ago...I'm going back to more natural food.

This only stands makes sense. We've found a great little green grocery not too far away with great prices and lots of variety. So I'm trying to limit and eventually cut back on my caffeine ( both coffee & brewed tea) and move away from commercial juices packed up sugar and preservatives.

So with that in mind I made juice for 1 this morning. 2 pears, 3 apples and a celery stalk later, I had a tasty 5 oz. Now the real question - just how fast is this going to digest and will there be any nasty side effects! Alex has a cute word he uses - the pee poops! Stay tuned for follow-up on this
!

Ye Ha!

After an long day including a round trip to Cowtown and a full day in at the office, Joe is feeling somewhat more upbeat about the upcoming Pancake Breakfast for the kickoff of the 2008 Calgary Stampede.

What could have grown into pancakes and all the fixings for ~ 12000 will be kept to a modest 1500 or so...by virtue of an invitation only event. Thank goodness...after cooking hot dogs for ~ 2k earlier this month, I couldn't imagine a task of feeding the equivalent of a small city!

I haven't seen a Stampede Parade since that time with Mom & Dad. We watched the show from a great vantage point and then hopped on the LRT to go down to the stampede grounds. And wouldn't you know it...after taking all those pictures of the parade, we all forgot our cameras for the train ride...and who should sit down beside Dad but Dennis Weaver, that year's Parade Marshall! True story...you can't make stuff like that up! Those are good memories.

Put your thinking caps on!

What do you cook/bake for Michael Smith's Executive Chef????

He'll be our house guest and he's bringing the ribs for the BBQ...and we have to fill in the rest of the meal? Do we continue with the pork theme...and maybe do something with apples?

I'm open for suggestions!

Home again

Seems most of June has been spent on the road, so it was very nice to unpack last night and just relax.

Lesley posted a great review of Heather's shower, so you can check it out there. It was very enjoyable and I didn't have to wear a thong outside my clothes! lol That I would only do for April & Monica!

We had a great visit with Edmond on the way south Wednesday. They just moved into a gorgeous new home...to say I'm a bit jealous of their kitchen would be an understatement! Love the double door pantry! Yesterday on the way north, we stopped in to see Josephine...she has a great room, lots of bright light for her flowers and the RN's & LPN's were so very attentive. Stay strong Jo!

Some close co-workers of Joe surprised him with tix to this Thursday's Cirque du Soleil performance. The bad news, Joe has a road trip and will be away. The good news is I get to treat my dear friend Joanne and she gets to play hookey from work! Win win if I can find a suitable souvenir for Joe.

Stay healthy & happy!

This day I was the bug, not the windshield!

Do you think we wimped out? Here are the historical numbers for race day...

All I can say is we made the right choice for the health of the team as a whole. I'm going to walk my 5 km as soon as my sneakers are dry. Lesley officially has been diagnosed with strep throat and the guys aren't feeling the very best. I'm sipping on liquids constantly because I have a weird sort of tickle in the back of my throat. I can't get sick...there's too much stuff to do!

What do you mean - the weekend is almost over?!

Time is going much too fast. So fast I can not remember the last time I was just sitting there thinking how bored I am!!!! There's too much life to live.

Saturday was spent in the yard. Joe scrubbed down the deck as I weeded and weeded some more. We then did some planting before breaking for an awesome BBQ supper along with fresh steamed beets greens and swiss chard...from our own garden no less!

What should have been a restful night's sleep before the JDR Run for the Cure was anything but. No less than 3 parties broke up around our area and decided to chat about it in the still of the night. the last incident was @ 5am...! I'm not a happy camper. If the opportunity arises, I will say something to the homeowner.

Joe and his troop of volunteers headed for the JDR walk shortly after 8 and we ended up feeding between 2 & 3000 hungry walkers. After the first 500, who's counting! They almost all showed up at the same time ans I was unpackaging buns for 2 solid hours. 4 people were handing them out, 3 people on the grills and a couple of extra helpers to go for re-supplies from the refrigerator truck. The good news, we weren't responsible for re-supplying the condiments! We were bushed when we got home and we haven't moved very fast or far since. The weather held out for an excellent turnout. We don't know how much money was raised but Joe's co-worker Monica, managed ~$14,000! It helps that they had the president and vice presidents of the company arrested by one of the filed supervisors who happens to be an auxiliary RCMP. The tactic worked out well and they successful raised enough bail money to continue their day!

Hope you had a great weekend...can't wait to see what joys are coming our way this week!
