Edward Scissorhands????

Alex came out to help me in the garden tonight after supper. I was going to pull weeds but how do you explain the difference between a weed and a plant? Earlier I said a weed was any unwanted plant...so if he didn't want it, that would make it a weed whether it was a dandelion or a petunia.

So we went and pruned the lilac bushes. I asked him to trim away any of the dried up brown bits of flowers and he did an amazing job! Can't wait until next year to see the results in full bloom.

Then we moved on to watering. We are in the midst of a drought...only 11.2 mm of rain in all of June. This is almost as bad as 2002 in which we had 12.8 mm. Our trees are looking sad but I hope the root watering helps them survive. But Alex feels that watering has to be done in intense short bursts that he likes to call 'BULLETS'! He puts the dial on JET and shoots away...I'll know more tomorrow on which plants tolerated this treatment. At the very least he blasted away any potential insects! It's all good, he was enjoying helping his Nannie! I really enjoyed his company out there tonight. Now to rest up for tomorrow's whirlwind activities. We are heading into the city for UP!

Friday already!

This was a crazy week. After much thought and referral to our calendar, Joe & I decided to sell our camper because we weren't going to get out again this year. So I cleaned it up, staged a few things, photographed it and posted it in Kijiji. Well we done our homework, priced it right and were promptly swamped with calls and emails. Folks from BC to Saskatchewan responded and within 21 hours, she was sold for our asking price. I thought we would be lucky to sell by the weekend! Nope Tuesday at noon!

Wednesday we went to the Hat to inter Dad's remains. I was pleased with the monument...dated and cleaned up. We also dropped off the rest of Kevin's belongings and to Brian's delight...his drum set. Sorry Lynn, I should have brought you some ear plugs!

We took a different route which was very picturesque and cut about 45 minutes off our travel each way. Still it was a long day in the car. Cody didn't seem to find.

However...the next day, we learned that JT & AJ were playing their last soccer game against each other that night....soooooooo....back in the car we go to head south for that match up. Both played very well. Alex loved his turn in goal and JT, well he loved playing all positions.

We were quite weary at this point and I don't think we could have convince Cody to get back in the car so we stayed overnight. A nice respite before heading home. Oh...Joe had to work this afternoon...what a hectic 2 days off!!!! I'll let him rest up at work until Monday...then we head south to pick up AJ for his solo visit. JT and his parents will follow Thursday evening. Restful weekend...nope...we are all booked for 18 holes of golf Saturday morning!!!! I better find some extra balls. Nope...the boys don't lose theirs, I DO!

I stand corrected!

I didn't mean to skip JJ...I think I Facebooked a birthday message to him...but I totally missed Joeye & Josh's birthdays on my list! Thanks for the gentle reminder...seems like there will be just a bit more cake to be had! Happy Birthday everyone!

Happy Father's Day

Sadly this is my first Father's Day without mine, but I have a special date with him later this week! I have my memories of special things we used to do. One of my favorites was the day Dad took me on a walking tour of all his favorite haunts in Sherbrooke. Nannie & Aunt Bebe lived on Moore Street, so it didn't take us long to get down town but then it was up and down strange streets...seeing where Dad used to get his hair cut, where he worked, lived and so on. We walked for hours, talking and looking around, stopping for a refreshing treat of ice cream. It was great having him all to myself! Thanks Dad!

Wishing Joe, Aaron and Jeff a Happy Father's Day. Spend time with your children because being a father isn't the same as being a Dad! Make memories with your boys.

1 square foot of the 7th of 9 garden beds left to do

There I was, cruising to a finish and thinking I would reward myself with a cup of green tea on the front porch when the first crack boomed overhead! Dropped the metal tools, grabbed my MP3 player with audio book and ran indoors.
It continued long enough for my to grab my camera and catch a few pics and a very mini video clip.

I had watered the lawn a few mornings ago and this morning applied my magic potion of fertilizer and seaweed with a drop of dish soap, so this rain will be a welcomed addition. I just hope the hail didn't do too much damage.
.

It caught up to me in a big way

The weeds have been flourishing and the poor plants fighting for survival. A county near us was declared an agricultural disaster yesterday due to the drought we are experiencing. Fields and fields of nothing but dust where canola should be knee high. I'm going to miss seeing those glorious fields of bright yellow.
This is the prettiest set of gardening tools ever. Thanks Heather! They are almost too cute to use but if I want to salvage my garden I better get them dirty! The gloves have a rubber coating, great for grabbing weeds or pricklies. The basket itself collapses down for storage but I think with it's rubberized lining it may be great for harvesting a few radishes and some lettuce. There won't be any apples this year, the tree is under major stress. Hopefully the deep root waterer will get it through the summer. Even our Russian Olive which is drought resistant is not showing well. Fingers crossed for rain.

Weird mail

Joe was a popular guy today mail wise...lots of stuff including 3 identical envelopes with the exception of two of the addressees. Seems they were former co-workers of Joe's. HEY, I wonder how they got linked to Joe's home address? Inquiring minds would like to know.

Joe also got some info on a motorcycle tour of Nova Scotia. I think this is from the inquiry I made last year for this coming Cape Breton tour which is now on the back burner. But, he didn't throw the package away...so there may be a few odeas running around that HD head.

Yesterday was interesting @ HD. They had a bulletin the previous week about some 'ne'er do wells' stealing big ticket items. The spidey sense kicked in when 2 closely matching the description were walking in someone's departments. A very big ticket item in the cart along with bolt cutters, some sandpaper, etc and they are trying to get rid of this one very persistent clerk who walked them up and down all the aisles...smile for the cameras boys...and then back into the tool area where he preceeded to try & upsale them into an even bigger ticket item while the boss is within observation distance while chatting with the local detachment. The fellas decided not to make the 'purchase, left everything in the basket which was secured for fingerprinting on the plastic wrapping. That sounds like a Homer moment to me! The left the building but may have left some valuable clues behind.

Honoured

This beauty was made by our grandson Alex with the help of his Mom. Didn't he do a fabulous job. Papa especially loves the camo paint!
