A Belated Thank You!

I have to thank my big sister Sharon for her support in the upcoming Uncover the Cure: The Underwear Affair. Her generosity is deeply appreciated. I hope to make all my sponsor proud in June.

The race route was recently announced, it goes along the water on Memorial Drive...its' going to be very pretty. I may hang towards the back of the pack so I can get some photos! Aaron said the race doesn't start until 7 pm, so I hope I don't get too nervous during the day.

Joe & Steve are planning on riding their bikes down on Friday...Gayle & I will drive. Not sure if we'll take a car or the truck...in case we have to lug a bike back with us!

Team Crockett will walk the 5 km as a team, and show support for us older and not so ship shaped members. But I'm sure we will have the most fun...not sure about the underwear part of it...no one wants to see my granny panties or Joe's thing!

Once again Thank You Sharon for your support and Thanks to Krista for sponsoring Aaron. Every bit helps this wonderful cause that doesn't get the exposure it deserves!

Love it!

I'm a happy camper when I can get my clothesline out in the spring. Due to the arrangement of utility lines in the back yard, we had to go with an umbrella style clothesline when we moved in. It's not my favorite style but it's better than nothing. I love hanging my laundry out to dry and yes I am sensitive to the private laundry which gets hung in the laundry room out of sight.

Seems with all the talk about raising gas prices, and green house gases from idling cars in the drive-thru, some are overlooking the obvious. Use a solar powered clothes dryer whenever possible!

But no...we don't want to see your line of clothes flapping in the breeze! It's like we don't want to admit that clothes get dirty and laundry is a fact of life. Our local paper ran an article yesterday on this very topic. Whenever we've entertained the thought of moving into a newer home, we've always checked for convenants. Most salespeople don't see why I leave shortly after learning what I could and couldn't do in one of their new fabulous decorated homes. Laundry happens and it's gonna happen in my backyard!

I think it's similar to bathroom issues....I NEVER see any of my neighbours carrying a jumbo sized package of TP into the house! What do they use?????

Not sure if I'm ready!

The weekend is going to be weird to say the least. Jeff and the little man are arriving early this afternoon...either Joe or I will meet them in the city and bring JR back home while Jeff sets up his display booth.

HL has to work today and will drive up afterwards.

Saturday Jeff does his sales thing, us girls go for the fitting and then we'll do something with Joe & JR. After supper, HL drives back home because she has to work on Sunday morning.

Sunday Jeff does his show, JR hangs out with us until late afternoon. Then we pack him up and drive into the city to transfer him to Daddy's waiting arms for their drive home...along with all of Jeff's samples etc...I guess that means we as grandparents can't go out and buy something really large and really cute for the little guy!

Or can we??????? Stay tuned!

Crazy weekend approaching

The Turner Valley gang is coming up for a variety of reasons...besides a visit! Jeff has his trade show, Heather has a gown fitting and we need to do some other shopping. Well it seems Heather has to work on Friday so can't come up with Jeff...Jonathan may be with Auntie or come up with Daddy and visit with Nannie while Daddy sets up his booth. Heather recently got scheduled to work on Sunday...but has no day care available...so....probably won't work. Papa & Nannie may drive down and pick up HL & JR Friday after work so she can stay through to the end of the trade show on Sunday and go back with Jeff as a family! They won't see much of each other over the weekend. Or not....I still don't know which way this is going to pan out.

Welcome to my world and all its quirks! Isn't it great?!

Blue skies once again

The snow began late Friday night, but we still went to the Calgary Horticultural show on Saturday. It was nice to leave the driving to someone else. Late Tuesday afternoon, the sun started to peak out and this is what we are left with! Hopefully most of it will melt!

Good week overall

Friday evening we bought the bed for the guest room, which was to be delivered Sunday morning. Sunday was beautiful. While waiting for the delivery,I got some of the back yard cleaned up while Joe got the dust off the bike.

On Saturday Joe's inquiry about the chrome side parts for the bike weren't looking too optimistic...parts no longer being made. Monday he found a source to do custom chrome which was his next choice. Surprise surprise on Tuesday night...the parts were in! And at a great price too! Joe dropped them off at the house on his road trip north. Joe got home last night and hadn't finished supper 5 minutes before he was digging out his wrenches and installing the new bling bling.

When we purchased the bed, we held back the GST which was to be paid at time of delivery. Well the driver wasn't interested in processing it, so when Joe stopped by on his way home the other day, seems that the balance was cleared by our salesman! A good deal made even better! There are still good folks around...just keep your eyes open so you can recognize them!

Who I Am Makes a Difference

I was directed to this Blue Ribbon movie by a dear friend. Take 6 minutes and watch it, and see if you don't feel that you too make a difference.

And the lawyers are paid!

I finally received my new court order and the bill...good thing I was sitting down but it wasn't a total surprise. Why should their prices remain constant in this ever changing world?

I think that 'we' were taken to task for the latenss of this whole fiasco....my new audit has been set with a very specific 'pass by' date. Hey I was ready, the others were ill prepared. But that's all water under the bridge. Now to get the papers organized and labelled for archival storage.

Thanks to cousin David for today's Ha-ha! Hope I don't offend anyone!

Uncover the Cure course revealed!

Here is the course for The Underwear Affair 2008

How do they expect me to have a great personal time when we are going to be going along the water in gorgeous downtown Calgary??????

Can you race walk with a camera??????

Whadda ya think? Too high?

It's that time when we are again replacing a bed. Poor Jeff, what a sport, never said anything but I was thinking the bed was awful the last time I slept there! Well we are faced with a dilemma if you are on the short side of life. The mattress top sits ~ 33.5"...I think it's a tad high, Joe figures it's okay. Your thoughts would be appreciated before I go to all the work of modifying the bed skirt for the Jolly Green Giant's bed!

Acai or No Acai?

Joe was a sweetie, bought me a new cider to try...Acai Berry but because I was still on my pain meds, I had to pass.

Today in my mail I got a sample of Tetley's new Mango Passionfruit Acai tea.

So I had to check out what an acai is and how's what I found
The fruit is edible, and its pulp is used in wines, liqueurs, as flavouring, as colorant, and on its own as a juice.

Can't wait until later tonight or tomorrow! Try something new for yourself.

I missed a rather important call

This is how the message went...

This is J...., calling from M...RV storage. We noticed that your RV stall # 15 was empty and we are wondering if you want to retain it for future use. Please call us back @ ...

Well, I noticed the little answering machine light blinking when I went into the kitchen to make my supper and my heart stopped! We hadn't picked up our camper yet, despite talking about it! A quick call to Joe, he said to go check it out...pull on my shoes, grabbed the cell phone, came back for my code to get inside the compound and dash back out! Drove over there, punched in my code, gate started to open, got into car and drove through to our area...as I rounded the corner, I couldn't see it...a great big semi trailer was parked up against the rail....swing around it and there sits our camper!!!!! In slot # 15...so I don't know if they got the wrong stall number or if they hadn't gone all the way around that commercial trailer...but I took photos just in case it's not there tomorrow!

Something about self fulfilling prophecies has been running through my head ever since! With that, have a good night, I'm going to try!

Town update

Town Council got the message about a gradual phasing in of the new rates...now to attend the next meeting to make sure this is on the agenda. Was it coincidence that workman had part of 100 St dug up and new pipes off on the side?

We still have snow in the back, melting slowly as our mornings are socked in with heavy fog. That doesn't burn off until mid day and by then we don't reach our predicted highs. The good news is I don't have to rush out and get the yard raked - need to find and clean all the mice scat first!

Temperatures in the greenhouse are warming up...almost time to plant lettuce etc.

Til next time, I'm heading for my rocker and plugging in the heating pad...this dampness, old age or whatever has played havoc on my back all week.

Tightening the Money Belt

I try to stay in the loop, especially when it comes to financial issues. From the newspaper, I knew that as a town we were going to be hit hard with higher utility bills and it all came true. A couple of nights ago, there was a special Town Hall meeting to address this issue - so many were not prepared for their bills to double or more.

I had some questions and found the meeting very informative. Seems we have some very hefty repairs and maintenance to be done and not enough in the town reserves. We aren't in crisis yet...but there is a cap on how much debt we can carry and with skyrocketing construction costs, how best do we address this issue.

Despite some folks saying it was gross mismanagement by town council, I feel its more a case of short sightedness. I seen a similar reaction when Base Housing had to adjust housing prices to fair market value in order to finance their infrastructure upgrades. We can continue the way we are, with our heads in the sand but you know if you are residing here for the long run, it's gonna cost us all more in the long run.

I can hardly wait for the next town meeting to see which way they are going to go. Some say borrow all the money now while we know the interest rates and get it all done, others want things back to the way it was before - head in sand syndrome- others want to attract more industry to our small town in order to get the big tax dollars. The answer lays in a collective effort - we need to keep our town a great place to live, especially with all our seniors, but still maintain the infrastructures.

So my ~$50/month bill has ballooned to +$100. You can bet I'll be checking for running faucets while brushing teeth, leaky taps and/or checking out a low flush toilet. And when it's a bit warmer...all 3 of my rain barrels will be in service! I'm watching the pennies so the dollars won't be such a worry when the next bill arrives.
