Not sure if that's good news or not

I am referring to my post on manners or lack there of. Seems we are becoming a pathetic lot and pulling a 'cop out'!

We had a great weekend, just the two of us. Saturday we played 18 holes at our favorite course. Joe got a few birdies and I had 2 break thrus. I managed to hit my ball through the trees and shrubs at Joe's favorite hole. I usually lose a ball and then drop another on the other side. And...surprise surprise...I chipped in on another hole.

Funny how things happen. We get home, Joe goes to put the clubs in the shed until next time and the combination lock is frozen with the heat. He opened it not 4 hours before but we spent much of the afternoon trying to get it to open. Joe eventually popped it open...now I'm rethinking the security of padlocks!

Sunday we headed down to Whyte Avenue for a walk about. Lots going on in the capital region - the Indy races, Capital EX and the Fete au Legal, so the sidewalks weren't too crowded. Popped into a couple of shops but didn't buy anything. Waited until we got to Joe's favorite shopping mall and I found a carry-on bag for half price. Now I just have to see what I can fit into that thing before the NB trip. I may be wearing more clothes than I need...like a hoodie for cool nights.

Food was outstanding all weekend long...and the bathroom scales reflect this! We had the Big Breakfast Saturday morning with Joe's shredded hash browns. Lunch wasn't needed but we did pick up a small ice cream mid afternoon. Supper was beer can chicken with Bud Light Lime. Didn't taste the lime but the chicken sure was tasty. Sunday was a light brekkie of coffee & bagels. We stopped in for a couple of appetizers for our lunch and then we were so full...supper was a bowl of cereal and then tea and a piece of pie. I know...THAT'S the reason for today's numbers!!!! But hey....it was worth it.

Hope you all had a great weekend and an even better week!

Some people press my buttons

I am by no means without my quirks and habits and mistakes. However it seems that lately...in the past five years or so, people are forgetting their manners and are being down right rude and invading of my space.

I don't like hearing others conversations on their cell phones & Blackberry when I'm out for a social time. Are they that important they have to stop everything and take every call?

Yesterday I popped into town to pick up some essentials and was unloading my grocery cart when the clerk asked me a question. I stopped and looked over to her, answered the question and then turned back to my buggy. Well I was only half way through unloading and the woman next in line had already put in the order divider and was proceeding to shove all my stuff forward so she could get her things on the conveyor belt.

She was not happy when I shoved her stuff back with the divider and told her it was my turn at the checkout, she should wait until I was finished. She was my age and I still do not know what was going through her mind that she would have done such a thing. I can only chalk it up to a 'meno' moment and the heat.

It is my opinion that we stopped teaching civics in school way too soon! No wonder the world seems crazier each day.

Weird few days

After some decent temperatures, we got socked by + 30 yesterday and I almost melted into a puddle of mush! I was not even close to being prepared. Hope things cool off in BC before our trip next month.

The capital region was hit by an extreme thunderstorm last night, thunder, lightening, hail and high winds. Parts of buildings collapsed, roofs were blown off, trees torn out of the ground, roots and all and lots of power outages. With the exception of 1 minor injury, folks were just cold, wet and scared. Clean up continues. We were very fortunate and lost power for ~ 5 minutes and only had a few things blow around in the yard.

We did have plans to go down to Taste of Edmonton for supper and hang around to see The Stampeders on stage but with the storm coming in we decided it would be best to stay put and keep our dear Cody company. It doesn't take much to send her into a tail spin at 16 years if age.
We watched a video 12 Rounds which suited the kind of night we were experiencing. TTYL

Dragging myself around today

After much anticipation, I got the girls checked out with the new machine...today. This was so much more awkward and uncomfortable compared to my previous mammogram. The girls are tugged, and coaxed, my head twisted back, my hips pushed out but my rib cage in...and then the lovely compression! BUT...

The difference from the last film and today's in night and day. Where it seemed cloudy and somewhat dense was bright and crisp with clean sharp lines. They still have to go to the technician for official reading but I was impressed with what I seen.

I ventured out to do some weeding this afternoon, thought I would enjoy my latest book on tape and just go at them. I was not amused to encounter hundreds of baby grasshoppers bouncing around. They were everywhere. I persevered for an hour and then decided to call it quits. I wonder if there will be any garden this year.

Week of much needed rain

Some days it was constant and heavy, other days it would sputter throughout. That made it a challenge for someone to get his tub time in but he managed. Papa even taught JT how to use his snorkel and that was the beginning of a new era.

Before the boys would splash about while I weeded the garden. Now with the snorkel, JT is swims in stealth mode! If I stretch my neck I can see the orange tip of the snorkel moving in a circular motion. But I now have to almost stand there and watch every movement. But you know, I AM the proud Nannie!

Now to wait for the lawn to dry up enough to mow! Paul...it's not as long as your was but for us...it's pretty shaggy!

Surprise!

We went to check out the Bass Pro Shop today and met up with Lesley, Aaron and the boys. We were looking for anything that may be handy on our houseboating trip next month. The young'ens got wet suits and my big guy got some nice shorts. We caught the fish feeding frenzy. The tank must have been 10 to 12 feet high. It reminded me of the movies where the piranha gets the bad guy.

On the way out the doors, JT asks me if we could talk...seems like everyone knew what was coming...he wanted to come back with us so he could have his solo visit! How could I say no, especially as I was going to see him on Thursday when I went for my stamping class? So he kept Cody company in the back seat and as soon as we were home...he was into his swim trunks! After supper he went back out and Papa showed him how to wear his snorkel and mask...next thing I knew he was underwater for 2.5 minutes at a time. He hasn't quite mastered blocking his air tube when he tries a somersault but tomorrow is another day.

I can't wait until JR is old enough...not sure how to co-ordinate a visit with him living out of the province...may have to have him for a few weeks at a time! Heather...you just got the heads up, but that won't be for at least another 3 years! That's a bit far for the "I miss my Mom I want to go home" @ 2 am!!!!

Great visit

Alex did very well for his solo visit. Only crawled into our bed once...he kicked his covers off and got cold...and listened very well. He was very happy to see his family pull into the driveway Thursday night and you couldn't separate the brothers for the rest of the weekend, even through 18 holes of golf!

Schools are sure changing up their curriculum since our girls time. Alex and I were enjoying a quiet afternoon in the backyard when he started asking me if I knew that the world was spinning and not still? That caught me off guard in a nice way! So we ended up talking about our daytime was someone else's night, our summer, their winter. He really has a great grasp on this. Later in the year, when darkness comes earlier, we are going to see what we can find with my telescope which just happens to be set up in the boys' bedroom! Can hardly wait!

Weather wise, we finally got some rain and my rain barrel is full once again. Everything is brown and crispy here but very wet down east. Ah Mother Nature keeping us on our toes! We now have about 6 tomatoes...which brings the cost down from $500/tomato to $83.33. I'm hoping that changes fast! Joe's grapes are going to be plentiful on his vines but mine are only in year 2, no fruit but lots of vines and leaves setting up for the future.

We got some beautiful green tomatoes at the farmer's market along with our favorite foccacia yesterday. We found our pie guy back for another year and picked up strawberry rhubarb for dess ert tonight. Mmmmm...all this goodness makes eating leftovers so yummy. Life is good here at Lil Salmon House.
